Frosty Morning

Took this one a couple of weeks ago.

Processing was a lot of experimentation so I'm anxious to know what you folks think.

I like it. Lost a little of the "crispness," was that due to the processing? Other than that, I love the contrast between colors; a great piece for the season.

:cheers

I like the image, but I think the border ruins it.

davjlee - thanks, glad you like the shot. I took quite a few that day so who knows

Doc - glad you like the image as well. Your coment about the border doesn't surprise me in the least.

I think the problem is that I'm not a designer or an artist. I just read a story and a line in it summed it up perfectly. One of the characters says "If I drew a picture of a cat I'd have to write the word cat beneath it so people would know what it is."

I guess I'll stick to taking pictures and keep the borders nice and simple. I can see the beauty that's out there and I can capture it in my limited way but as for the rest, I suck at it.

There's nothing wrong with simple borders. Alternate between black and white depending on the image, fin!

Agreed. I'm not a fan of processed images like that... but it is nice.

Beautiful image, but some areas are burned - tho I appreciate that lighting conditions would have been difficult.

Agree - bin the border. Something simpler would suit, but recognise you're never going to please everyone. Just don't detract from your image.

It looks like you've used some kind of brush / filter to paint over it. I'd probably prefer it without (unless there's a problem with the original shot) so that I can get to see the crispness of that sugar frosting! Despite this it is still great work!:cheers

Here it is again with a whole lot less processing.

And looking at it myself I have to agree I went way overboard the first time.

Well, that's what I come here for, feedback.

Thanks folks. :)

Definetly less processing. The detail in the frost is, how shall I say it, way cool. :D The grain in the background is a bit distracting, maybe blur/blend it out?

bdbolin - thanks glad you like it. Looking at my first attempt I really have to ask myself what the heck i was thinking. Oh well, if you don't try you don't learn eh ?

Jamie - thank you too. I kinda like the colours myself

Colin - hey, glad you took a peek as well. Indeed it ws cold but not as cold as it's going to get :lol

Juha - thak you as well, much appreciated

rc - as I said, live and learn. And yeah, you're right about the grain. That's easy to fix. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

Ah, the new border's much better.
I would use the grain to your advantage, by putting the whole shot in Black and White. I've had shots that were grainy, and by BWing them it kind of looks like it was shot on reversal film (like Pi)
Just a thought...

I love the strong colours in this, but b+w might just work! Look for a channel, you're way more likely to get good results on the conversion. Pick the best or blend two if the best finish is a combo:cheers
